The Dangote Group has firmly denied recent reports suggesting that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has begun lifting fuel from its newly-commissioned refinery.
Reports circulating claimed that NNPCL had commenced lifting petrol from the Dangote Refinery, selling it at a price of N897 per liter. This comes despite earlier statements by Dangote Group Chairman, Aliko Dangote, indicating that the refinery was poised to begin production and distribution of petroleum products.
However, Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Group, clarified the situation in a statement issued today. Chiejina emphasized that NNPCL has not yet started lifting fuel from the Dangote Refinery.
In his statement, Chiejina said, “We have noted with concern the headline ‘NNPCL lifts Dangote petrol, sells at N897 per liter,’ which was published in Business Day on Wednesday, 4 September 2024. We wish to clarify that NNPC has not commenced the lifting of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, from our Dangote Petroleum Refinery.”
He further explained, “As of now, no agreement has been finalized with NNPC regarding the lifting of our refined products. Consequently, discussions about pricing are premature. The pricing of petrol is regulated by relevant government authorities, and as such, falls beyond the scope of our control or influence.”
The Dangote Group’s response aims to address any confusion surrounding the refinery’s operations and pricing mechanisms as the company continues to prepare for its official launch.
