The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism, WSCIJ, in collaboration with Albarka 89.9 FM from Ganmo, Kwara State, on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 organized a one-day sensitization program on community development.

The event funded by the MacArthur Foundation, took place at the City-In-Hotel in G.R.A Ilorin, the state capital.

The event aimed to educate participants from diverse communities and civil society organizations about the roles of both the community and government in fostering development.

DNNAfrica reports that participants received insights into the significance of familiarizing themselves with their representatives and engaging with them regularly to address community needs, as emphasized by speakers Bukola Adeniyi and Kayode Abdulazeez.

Public affairs analyst, Comrade Lanre Oshodi, underscored the importance of citizens identifying challenges requiring government attention in their communities and knowing the appropriate channels for lodging complaints to prompt action.

He also encouraged participants and the wider community to take ownership of projects within their domains, emphasizing that they are the primary beneficiaries and should therefore take measures to protect them.

Participants expressed gratitude to the organizers and commended Albarka FM for their informative programs, acknowledging the station’s role as a voice for the marginalized in society.
