CODE Visits OML56 Host Community for Conflict and Fragility Project

On the 27th of September, CODE began a community outreach to Obodo-Ugwa in Delta State, as part of activities of the Conflict and Fragility project, funded by Oxfam GB.

The project envisions an improved adherence to business principles as contained in the United Nations Guiding Principles [UNGP] and considered in the National Action Plan [NAP] which will domesticate the UNGP in Nigeria.

This adherence is hoped to improve human rights practices and corporate social responsibility of operators in the oil and gas sector towards their host communities.

The trip to Obodo-ugwa included a townhall meeting as part of the community outreach activities, interviews and group discussions with community leaders and residents, to intimate them about the project, and also collect social development stories around access to potable water, electricity, healthcare, education, decent employment and other livelihoods.
