Accountability Lab, UNDP Organize Challenge to Promote Peace and Social Cohesion

Accountability Lab Nigeria is creating opportunities for young people to participate and contribute to enhancing peace and social cohesion in their communities through the organization’s peace and social cohesion (PSC) innovation challenge supported by the UNDP Nigeria office.

 

The youth-driven organization which makes governance work for people by supporting active citizens, responsible leaders, and accountable institutions stated that the campaign seeks to develop creative youth-driven ideas for participation, peacebuilding, and better governance with a focus on 7 states: Benue, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kaduna, Katsina, Taraba, Adamawa.

It stated that due to the nation’s youth population, it has the potential for transformation through investment in manpower, but unfortunately, many of the youths are uneducated.

Through the campaign however, the Lab was able to train over 20 youth participants in Kaduna on multiple conflict resolution techniques, adding that it is is particular about involving women, youths, and people with disabilities (PWDs) in the peace-building process; and solicits the collaboration of traditional leaders, security agencies, and other relevant stakeholders across the state in the initiative, which lasted for three days.

Various CSOs participated in facilitation and judging the competition across the seven states namely CEPAN, JDPC, SKYE HUB, Agama Peace Centre, Search for Common Ground, Tear Fund, Simji Girl Child Foundation, FIDA Nigeria, YALI Nigeria, Citizen Justice and Peace Centre, United State Institute of Peace, Zamani Foundation, Fusion Nigeria, Legal Awareness for Nigerian Women, Christian Aid and a few others.
